ICA: Chef Gabrielle Hamilton

Tonight Bobby Flay takes on Chef Gabrielle Hamilton of Prune in New York City.  Prune is a well thought of restaurant in the East Village that offers . . .  well, why don’t I let Gabrielle tell you for herself.

Chef Hamilton has endured herself to the city that never sleeps as Brooke Barrier explains in her article from the Nation’s Restaurant News.  The judge’s are Karine Bakhoum (bubbly) , Louisa Chu (adorable), and Michael Ruhlman (commanding).  Enjoy the Battle.

UPDATE:  I just watched the episode; congrats to Chef Hamilton for a great battle and win.

  1. Kudos to her – Flay’s dishes were visually pleasing, but it was Hamilton’s that I wanted to eat.

  3. I ALWAYS root for the Iron Chef but I kind of found myself liking Chef Hamilton. I honestly thought her minimalist take on the zucchini could not beat Bobby and I don’t think she thought she could win either. This was one of the rare times that I was glad to see the challenger come out the victor. I must say that this panel of judges were terrible and lacked insight. I loathe Ruhlman as he seems to be a bit of a bully. Give me Ted Allen as a judge EVERYTIME!

  4. LeBlanc,
I didn’t know you were such a Ted Allen fan. My editor is setting up a phone interview with Ted for me to promote his new FN show Food Detectives for Edible TV. By the way, did you see my pal Poppy Tooker take on Bobby in a Gumbo Throwdown? She is so delightful and that is her real name.

  5. Yeah, the wife & I love Ted Allen. His new show looks really good, good luck on that interview. I did see Poppy and unlike with ICA, I always root against Bobby on Throwdown. I gotta try me some of that gumbo even tho I am more of a Jambalaya guy!

  7. Just watched the challenge between Gabrielle and Bobby and would love to know the recipe for the zucchini casserole that Hamilton made. Her comment was that her grandmother and mother both made the same – it looked delicious.
    Please share the recipe.

  8. question!!! i haven’t seen tonight’s “Iron Chef” but i saw the name “Gabrielle Hamilton” and flipped! i went to boarding school in new hope, pa. with a gabrielle hamilton. i googled her name and i’m beginning to read a few articles and she mentions she worked as a dishwasher for 12 years at a “tourist restaurant in PA.” (the gabby i knew was from a very wealthy family so that doesn’t add up but PA does!) does anyone know the age of this person? i’m dying to see the show!! i don’t know if i’ll recognize her considering it’s been a veryyyy long time since high school but WOW! this would be crazy!

a similar thing happened to me once from the same school…i was reading soap opera digest one day many years ago and i saw some christmas party pics from one life to live, then i noticed a girl i recognized from school with one of the lead characters!! (i’m from texas so this is a big deal in my world lol) i wrote him, told him who i was and said, “if that’s mimi, please give her my number, we were best friends in school but lost touch.” we reconnected and i went to NYC to see her! :)

if this happens again i will officially FLIP! :)

  17. It was nice to see her win. I thought all the recipes looked good, but hers looked a little challenging. I would like the tunesian zuchini recipe with harissa. It sounds and looks very exotic.
